Lesson 1- The Weasleys

General Overview

In the late 19th century, the Weasleys were considered one of the most prominent wizarding families. The only non-magical person in the Weasley family is one of Molly Weasley's cousins. However, they are not the typical pure-blood family. They still respect all wizards and witches, no matter what their blood status is. Even though according to Draco Malfoy, "...all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford," the Weasleys are always cheerful and willing to help those in need.

The Beginnings

Arthur Weasley met Molly Prewett at Hogwarts, and soon after graduating, the two graduates eloped and began having children. Together, Arthur and Molly had 6 boys: Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and Ron, and 1 girl: Ginevra a.k.a. Ginny. Arthur and Molly are particularly protective of their family, and especially of Ginny, their only daughter.

Middle Years

Arthur, Percy, and Ron have all worked for the Ministry of Magic at one time or another, but in separate branches. Arthur was head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, as well as the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects (in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement). Percy was the person assistant to Barty Crouch Sr., the Head of the Department of Magical Transportation (after the war), and the Junior Assistant to the Minister of Magic. Ron was an auror. Bill worked in Egypt as a curse breaker, but when Lord Voldemort came back to take over the wizarding world, he moved to a desk job at Gringotts so he could be with his family more. The twins, Fred and George, opened their own joke shop in Diagon Alley called Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Charlie spent most of his adult life working with dragons in Romania, but was said to be a great Quidditch player and could have played for England if he did not leave Hogwarts to work with dragons. After leaving Hogwarts, Ginny went to play professional Quidditch for the all-female team, the Holyhead Harpies. After retiring from Quidditch, Ginny became the Quidditch senior editor for the Daily Prophet. All the Weasleys, including Molly, were a part of the Order of the Phoenix and directly participated in fighting Lord Voldemort and saving the wizarding world. Molly even duelled and defeated Bellatrix Lestrange, one of Lord Voldemort's closest and most powerful followers.

Specific Characteristics

Though the Weasleys are a very close family, they do have extremely different personalities that sometimes conflict with one another. For instance, Percy, the 3rd oldest son in the family, always obeys the rules whereas the twins, Fred and George, constantly joke around and break the rules to have fun. Percy even remained loyal to the Ministry of Magic during a period where they were trying to conceal the truth that Lord Voldemort had returned, while his father was brutally attacked by Lord Voldemort's snake, Nagini, and even while the rest of his family fought for the Order of the Phoenix.

During the War

Right before the battle of Hogwarts, Percy Weasley left the Ministry of Magic and reunited with his family. During the battle he fought for the Order of the Phoenix/Hogwarts. Fred Weasley died in the battle of Hogwarts from an explosion. Molly Weasley battled Bellatrix Lestrange to protext Ginny.

After the War

Arthur and Molly soon became grandparents after Lord Voldemort was finally defeated in the Second Wizarding War. Bill, who was married to Fleur Delacour during the war, had three children: Victoire, Dominique, and Louis. Percy married a witch named Audrey, and they had two daughters: Molly (named in honor of his mother) and Lucy. George married Angelina Johnson, an ex-Gryffindor classmate and quidditch teammate. Together, George and Angelina had a daughter named Roxanne and a son who they named Fred, in memory of George's twin brother. Ron married longtime friend and classmate Hermione Granger. Ron and Hermione named their two children Hugo and Rose. Finally, Ginny Weasley married Harry Potter, the boy she had had a crush on ever since meeting him for the first time. Ginny and Harry had three children: Albus Severus, James Sirius, and Lily Luna. Harry and Ginny also adopted his godson, Teddy Lupin, some time after both his parents, Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, had fallen in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Currently...

It is unknown if theWeasleys reside at the Burrow, a broken-down, 4-or-5 story house just outside the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, in Devon, England, or if it was destroyed by Death Eaters. They may also be staying at Shell Cottage (where Bill and Fleur live), or Aunt Muriel's house. Some other wizarding families that live near the Weasleys include the Diggorys, Fawcetts, and Lovegoods. Bill, the oldest Weasley child, moved into his own seaside house called Shell Cottage, which is located on the outskirts of Tinworth. The Burrow, Shell Cottage, and Aunt Muriel's house were used as safe houses for the Order of the Phoenix during the Second Wizarding War.
